ABA

Review

Aba is a gorgeous spot that screams summertime brunch with its airy, green, and European vibes. A great place to hit up with friends before bopping around West Loop, you get exactly what you’re expecting from a popular Chicago spot. Is the food solid? Yeah. Is it overpriced? Yeah. Is it a good place to make an insta story? Yeah. Do some restaurants need to serve that purpose and be known as just that? I don’t know about that but that’s where Aba sits, but that’s fine by me.

About

Aba, meaning father in Hebrew, is a Mediterranean restaurant with a California influence. The menu features Chef CJ Jacobson’s modern approach to Mediterranean cooking and the beverage program showcases spirits and rare wines from lesser known Mediterranean regions.

Japanese Sweet Potato Hummus

We love a sweet potato and we love hummus, put them together and you get a surprisingly underwhelming experience. Wayyy too sweet and goopy more than it was smooth, a better idea than it was execution.

Whipped Feta

How can you hate on whipped feta and can you fuck it up? So far the answer is no and Aba is right there in the “yeah whipped feta always slaps” section.

Halibut Ceviche

We are certainly biased as being absolute ceviche sluts but guilt as charged. If its on a menu we’re getting it. Adding another to the list and it was perfectly delicious.

Blackberry Drop Biscuit

Brunch always needs something sweet and who doesn’t love a biscuit? Add in blackberries, blackberry jam, and fresh whipped cream and you have…this dish. Yum!

Shawarma Steak & Eggs

With eyes bigger than our stomachs we couldn’t properly give this the attention it deserved (that biscuit was a thicc boy!) The steak what perfectly cooked, tender, and seasoned. I think I ate all of it and left the potato and eggs for the birds.
