There’s always a great debate around which pie is the best. At the end of the day it’s all about what you preference is, I’ve never understood why we even try to crown a single pie…especially when they are all fighting for second because this apple pie is the one true king. As with most recipes on this site, it’s easy af to make and if you tell people it’s a recipe you’ve inherited from you great-great-great grandma that smuggled it over into the New World because France was invading England just for this recipe, they’ll be have no choice but to agree because they’ll be too deep into a food coma to fight you on it (hence the name, haven’t done your Duolingo lately have you? Shame. You thought it was a type of cheese or something didn’t you? Shame again.)
INGREDIENTS
- 8 small Granny Smith apples (or as many as needed)
- 1 stick of unsalted butter (1/2 cup if you’re weird like that)
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 water
- 1 (9-inch😏) double crust pie pastry, thawed
STEPS
- Preheat oven to 425
- Peel and core apples, good god there are so many apples, then thinly slice into a bunch of apple slices a kid would eat
- Melt butter in a saucepan, add flour and stir to form a paste, cook until fragrant (1-2 mins
- Add both sugars and water, bring to boil, reduce to low & simmer for 3-5 mins. Remove from heat.
- Press 1 pastry into the bottom and sides of a (9-inch😏) pie pan
- Roll out remaining pastry so it’ll be a little to big and then cut into as many strips as you want. Depends on how much work you’re tryna do right here ⬇️
- Place apple slices into the pie pan and stack into a mound
- Make a lattice crust placing half the strips vertically and the other half horizontally and interweave them. If you need more details you’ve come to the wrong site.
- Slowly pour the sugar/butter mixture over the top of the crust, make sure it gets all over the apples and brush across any parts of the lattice crust that aren’t covered.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 mins then reduce heat to 350 and bake for about 35-45 mins or until the apples are soft
- Enjoy and be prepared with an escape route or defensive positioning for when the French come for you. Tu pourras prendre cette recette de tarte quand tu l’auras méritée, espèce de bâtard français!
